B i o g r a p h y

Magdalena Durant is a versatile and dynamic soprano with a unique quality of voice that excels in all genres ranging from virtuosic operatic arias to pop and jazz music.  She was born in Wroclaw, Poland and began performing from an early age. Magdalena earned her Master of Music degree with Honours under Professor Danuta Paziuk-Zipser at the Academy of Music in WrocÅ‚aw, Poland. She then earned a second master's degree and a postgraduate Konzertexamen (concert diploma) under Professor Monica Pick-Hieronimi at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, Germany. 

 

Magdalena Durant has extensive stage experience of a broad and demanding operatic repertoire, including performing the roles such as Adina in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, Pamina in Mozart’s Magic Flute, Handel’s Teseo and Puccini’s Suor Angelica at the Wroclaw Opera, Konzerthous Berlin, Cologne and Altenberg Cathedrals and other venues. She performs throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America with the Berliner Kammeroper, Philharmonie Südwestfalen, St. Andrews Orchestra, New Edinburgh Orchestra as well as with ensembles led by renowned organist John Kitchen in Edinburgh.  As a special highlight, she was featured in the 2008 ARD/WDR television documentary Ein Klavier geht. Additionally, Magdalena Durant is also an experienced entertainer with many jazz, gospel and operetta engagements to her credit.

 

Currently, Magdalena Durant resides in Edinburgh, Scotland  where she is a vocal tutor for the University of Edinburgh and the Glasgow Clyde College. She is fluent in English, German and Italian in addition to her native Polish language.
